E.A. Environmental - Leading the way in sustainable waste management advice...

E.A. Environmental is developing the 'Ceres' waste food processing machine, we are working hand in hand with the necessary statutory bodies in order to observe legislative demands. It is our intention to build up complete confidence in its capabilities to be able to process mixed food waste in a safe, cost effective and environmentally friendly way.
> History

The Ceres waste food processing machine is just one of many products offered by Electro Automation. This machine has been working successfully in a number of specific placements in various locations. It caters for a cross section of canteen food wastes which are treated on site and can process weights of 50kgs, 150kgs and 1000kgs per day. The food is recycled into a nutrient rich sand that is subsequently applied to land as a soil improver. Growth trials using the soil improver have been carried out successfully, with results showing improved standards in plant growth / product.

Performance monitoring and detailed testing has been carried out and information accumulated from all of the testing has been documented. E.A. Environmental has a committed team of engineers and consultants who are

developing this product and promoting it in the United Kingdon & Ireland, with further testing being carried out.

We pride ourselves on satisfying customer's needs, with a reputation built on expertise, experience, innovation and reliability.

Despite the intense, detailed testing work having already been carried out, we realise it will be necessary to prove to our own legislative bodies that this machine will eradicate all pathogens in food waste to a level equivalent to that demanded in Europe.

With particular reference to waste and its disposal, we in the European Union have an abundance of legislation to adhere too; new directives are being issued on a daily basis in an attempt to work towards long term sustainability. This legislation and the pressure of landfill tax increases year upon year, guide us towards looking at alternative waste reduction and recycling solutions.

The EU Landfill Directive: sets targets on member states for the reduction of biodegradable waste sent to landfill;

  • 75% of the 1995 level by 2010
  • 50% of the 1995 level by 2013
  • 35% of the 1995 level by 2020

As a result of this directive, the Government in England introduced...

Waste Strategy 2000: sets onerous targets for Local Authorities in an attempt to reduce our dependence upon landfill as a disposal outlet for biodegradable waste;
Recycle or compost at least

  • 25% of household waste by 2005
  • 30% of household waste by 2010
  • 33% of household waste by 2015

The Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland and the Welsh Assembly have set similar targets.

Animal By-Products Regulation (No. (EC) 1774/2002)

If the above targets are to be achieved, the composting of food waste is seen as a vital tool. The ABP regulations go to great lengths to detail treatment standards for meat and other products of animal origin, to ensure processed material may be safely disposed of or applied to land.
